![]() They just sound great. Soundfont also hosts virtual synthesizers and effects it's like having a mixdown facility in your laptop! I currently have over 48,000 MIDI files, and everything ffrom punk rock to Beethoven can be rendered to WAV (or any other format you like: MP3, AIFF, etc). There is a learning curve, but it's well worth it. SynthFont uses SoundFonts, a Creative Labs proprietary 24-bit sample set, for playback. Both sound sets sound terrible, and will not give you a pleasurable listening experience.Ī better choice is SynthFont. Most of the programs mentioned above do perform the MIDI to WAV conversion, but they use the built-in 8-bit PCM samples or FM synthesizer in the on-board sound card in your computer. As a professional musician and electroacoustician for over 35 years, I can tell you that although the information above is generally correct, it is incomplete.
